First, I’m gonna apologize for taking this pic. Don’t use your phone while driving. I can hit my volume down twice and it’ll open my camera. I didn’t look at my phone the whole time it was out to take this.
But... Come on. This madman first took his B on the highway, but then had the stones to drive it IN THE LEFT LANE. IN TRAFFIC. This was about 4:15 PM today on I-77, about ten minutes before traffic hits hard and, coincidentally, ten minutes before a huge downpour began.
Driving alongside him, we passed a Miata. Mi atas are small, and this NC dwarfed him . I’ve been up close with an MGB, but holy cow, it really puts it into perspective how tiny these things are when every tenth car we pass is a lifted F-250 or a Suburban. The experience made my 90 hp Golf feel sporty, though.

Those MGBs had somewhere around 95 HP though. Not a lot, but decent enough to get such a tiny car going. Much more dangerous than driving on the highway is driving at night, where there terrible electrical system can make the headlights appear to be powered by candles.
My mom had one, and frankly the scariest thing was taking the top down, as it made it all the more apparent that your head extended past the top of the windshield . Her’s had a aftermarket roll-bar when she got it, but removed it because it ruined the aesthetics. Was great fun on a sunny day though.

Dude, he has three wipers. That’s like 50% more safety than a Miata:

Late ones had only 70HP, but knocking the emissions stuff off & going to Webers would put it over 100. Oddly enough the one Dad has
had was electrically bulletproof especially compared to the Spitfire we had
.

Guy’s got some stones for sure.
My dad had one when I was very little. Love those little things.

This was a rubber bumper, so it was probably rated 70 ish st the factory. It had an ungodly slow vibe to it- I wouldn’t guess it made north of 50 at the wheels.

I’ve driven the TR6 on Chicago expressways which is a bit scary considering it’s dwarfed by your average subcompact. But no problem keeping up with traffic at 75-85 MPH.

I keep being tempted by them anyways, I know they’re ancient, slow, and super unsafe
but I have
a lot of happy memories of ours. We had a 74.5, which had the rubber bumpers but hadn’t been completely strangled.

They’re just so beautiful. Over the last few years, my dad has said on and off we should buy an old car and restore it- he says muscle car, I say Japanese sportscar or an MGB or Midget.

I’m getting pretty good at taking pics without looking at the phone. It takes three pics and then I crop it, sometimes doesn't work out but unless I'm stopped in traffic I try.
